The Immigration Department Has Started Issuing New Permits!

As called for by the Zambian Immigration and Deportation Act of 2010, several new permits have been introduced as of 9 December 2011. These include a Temporary Employment Permit, Spousal Permit, Transit Permit, and Cross-Border Permit. The old Self-employment and Entry permits are being replaced with the Investors and Residence Permits.

We can help existing permit holders transfer over to one of the new permits, as well as help qualified individuals apply for one of the new permits. Call us for details!

Visas

A visa is an endorsement on a visa form or in a valid passport granting a person permission to enter Zambia within a specified period. The period of stay in Zambia shall be determined by an Immigration Officer at the port of entry. The validity of the visa is not the period which the holder is entitled to remain in the country (see Entry Permit below).

There are six categories of visas:

  • Transit visa
  • Single entry visa
  • Double entry visa
  • Multiple entry visa
  • Re-entry visa
  • Day tripper visa

Entry Permits

A valid entry permit is required in order to remain in the country after you've entered. There are numerous types of entry permits one can apply for. Some of the more common ones include employment permits, study permits, visiting permits, and self-employment permits.

Some permits, such as a visiting permit for tourists, are issued when you arrive at the airport or one of the borders. Other entry permits require an application with supporting documentation to be submitted at Immigration Headquarters in Lusaka. We will advise you as to the appropriate type of permit you should apply for based upon your specific circumstances.
